The Syracuse Polish-American Veterans Documentation Project

In addition to the veterans listed on the two memorials, there are many more veterans of Polish descent from Syracuse.  Many are buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Geddes or other cemeteries in the Syracuse area, in the United States, or overseas.  This project is in the process of developing a database of these veterans that seeks to contain the following data fields:

• Military service

• Background, previous address and family information

• Personal history - obituary citation, if available

• Specific location of burial - cemetery and geographic information 

This level of specificity will provide a rich resource for genealogical and historical purposes.  However, the primary purpose of this data is to document, in detail, who the veterans of the Polish-American community in Syracuse were.  We want to recognize them for their contributions to the freedom of our Nation, acknowledge their sacrifices, and honor their memory by never forgetting who they were.
