Martin Kobos [first name spelled "Martn"], Army Ser. No. 4,903,595 was inducted (drafted) into the U.S. Army in Syracuse on Sep. 8, 1918. His address was 615 W. Fayette St. in Syracuse at that time. His service record shows that he was born in "Russia" on Nov. 11, 1894. His unit of assignment shows "10 Co CAC C Def of Eastern NY" [likely "10th Company, Coast Artillery Corps, Coastal Defense of Eastern New York"] to his discharge on Dec. 9, 1918. He attained the rank of Pvt. and did not serve overseas. His service record shows "none" under "wounds or other injuries" and "0 percent" under service related disability.

Obituary excerpt: "Hold Services for Veteran on Friday," Syracuse Herald, Jan. 8, 1936 - Victor Tuchewicz, 46, of 108 Kane Street, a World War veteran, died in University Hospital Tuesday night. Death was caused by edema of the brain, commonly known as water on the brain. His physician said the ailment may have been caused by a back injury he received during the war. The body was removed to the home of his sister, Mrs. Sophia Czachowski, 514 Hamilton Street, where funeral services will be conducted Friday. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Surviving besides his sister are three brothers, George Tuchewicz of Syracuse, Walter Tuchewicz of Detroit and Sigmund Tuchewicz of Poland.

Wiza, 30, 125 Pulawski st., a trainman employed in the Dewitt Yards, died at the City Hospital of Batavia yesterday morning from injuries received when he was knocked from the top of a moving train at Geddes Bridge. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 8:30 o'clock at the home and at 9 o'clock in the Sacred Heart (Polish) Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Wiza served as a trainman on both freight and passenger trains on the Central Lines. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. In a Nov. 11, 1930 Syracuse Journal Article, "Whole City Joins Armistice Ceremonies for War Dead," in a section "Memories of France Live Again as Veterans Meet," a photo is shown of "Ben Lapkow" sitting and "Alexander Blazak" standing over a chess board. The article states:
"Twelve years have not faded the memories of the boys who really did things "over there." Scenes like the one above were common at the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars headquarters today as the members assembled on the twelfth anniversary of Armistice Day and sounded vocal guns of war. Both Lapkow and Blazak were seriously wounded in the conflicts at Chateau-Thierry and Verdun as doughboys in the Fourth Division."
Was the owner of Ben's Tavern, 55 E. Genesee st., in Baldwinsville, NY (Baldwinsville Messenger, Oct. 8, 1940). Wife was Mary Lepkowski. They bought and sold several properties on the East Side of Syracuse as noted in Syracuse papers during the late 1940s and 1950s.

Peter Pospiech of No. 317 Sackett St., appeared on the list of those wounded in action in the Dec. 13, 1918 issue of the Syracuse Post-Standard.
According to the 1940 U.S. Census, Pospiech and his wife resided at 137 Lakeview Ave. where they rented. He was 45 years old and his occupation was "fireman" in a steel mill. They had no children. His brother was Felix Pospiech of 214 Sackett St.

Born in Poland, Mr. Sobolewski lived in Syracuse 52 years. He was the owner of the Polish Village Restaurant; 1200 W. Genesee St., for 20 years. Prior to that, he managed the Polish Legion of America Veterans' Post 14, of which he was a founder and current member. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of it's Fathers Club.Mr. Sobolewski, long active in sports circles, sponsored numerous bowling teams and was contributor to local Little League baseball organizations. According to his military service record, Ignacy Getik, Army Serial No. 1,927,326, residing at 110 Gale Avenue, Syracuse, NY, was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sep. 29, 1917 at Syracuse, NY. He was born in "Russian Poland" and was 21 and 7/12 years of age upon enlistment. He served in Company E, 310th Infantry Regiment for the duration of his service [78th Division, which went overseas in May of 1918]. He served at the rank of Private. Getek was discharged on March 26, 1918 with a Service Connected Disability at 20%.

Yarosz was born in Poland and lived in Syracuse most of his life. He was employed by Crouse-Hinds Co. for 17 years until his retirement in 1957.
He was a communicant of Holy Cross Polish National Church. He fought in World War I and was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Oper and Mrs. Albert Caiella; a son, John; a stepdaughter, Mrs. John Sztechmiler, nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

According to his military service record, Joseph J.Fazekas, Army Serial No. 3,599,510, residing at 113 Matty Ave, Syracuse, NY, was inducted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 7, 1918 at Syracuse, NY. He was born in "Austria" on March 1, 1895. He was assigned to the 12th Trench Mortar Battery for the duration of his service [Part of the 12th Division. The Trench Mortar Battery was likely with other divisional artillery units at Camp McClellan, Ala., destined to join the rest of the division at Camp Devens, Mass. In training when armistice was signed; entire division discharged by Jan. 31, 1919]. He served at the rank of Private First Class on Nov. 1, 1918. Fazekas was discharged on Feb. 11, 1919.

A native of Poland, he was a Syracuse resident 53 years. He was formerly employed by the John Deere Chilled Plow Co. He was a custodian at the YMCA.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and an organizer and officer of the St. Louis Society, the St. Louis Club, the Polish Community Home, PLAV Post 14 of which he was a past commander and Council 44 PNA. He was also a World War I veteran.

He entered service and went overseas with Company C, 77th Engineers.
A native of Poland he has been a resident here for 37 years and was an employe of Halcomb Steel Co.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Society, PRCU, the Free Poland Club, and the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 14.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Post-Standard, June 14, 1961 - "John W. Galuski, 61, 200 S. Edwards Ave , died yesterday in Veterans Hospital. He was a Syracuse resident 41 years.
Mr. Galuski was a native of Chicopee Falls, Mass. A veteran of World War I, he was active in the PLAV Post 14, and the American Legion, Post 41. He was past commander of the PLAV and past commander of the DAV Chapter and at one time he was department commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart VFW, Post 48.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Blessed Sacrament Church, the St. Louis Society 2517, and the PACC.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Bodner Galuski. one son, John, J. Galuski, Endicott; one daughter. Mrs. Alfonzia Irene Capato of East Syracuse, six grandchildren, three brothers, Joseph, Frank, and Edward Galuski; three sisters Mrs. George S. Presbyla and the Misses Mary and Adelle Galuski, all of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews.

From an article in the Syracuse Post-Standard, Oct. 8, 1946, entitled "Polish Veterans Choose Galuski," "...John Galuski of 214 Arch st. was elected commander of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 14, Sunday afternoon at the clubrooms. Galuski, a World War I veteran, enlisted in 1917 at the age of 17 and was wounded while fighting with the Ninth Infantry Second division. He was awarded the order of the purple heart and is a past state commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of New York and a past commander and organizer of the Purple Heart Chapter 89 of Syracuse. He is also a member of Salt City Post 348, VFW, and a member of American Legion Post 41."

From a newspaper article "4 Killed as Train Hits Automobile at Amboy," Syracuse Journal, Oct. 3, 1938:
"Mr. and Mrs. Skadorwa leave a daughter, Sophie Skadorwa, 12, while Mrs. Skadorwa also is survived by four brothers, Daniel Bialobrzeski of Syracuse, and Blazej, Stanley and Ognace Bialobrzeski of Poland, and three sisters, Mrs. Adolph Rozanski and Mrs. Boleslaw Ostrowski, both of Syracuse and Miss Josephine Bialobrzeski of Poland.
Skadorwa, a veteran of the World War, and member of Jablonowski Post 14, Polish-American War Veterans and Group 1254, Polish National Alliance, had lived in Syracuse 26 years, while his wife, a member of Group 1254, P.N.A., and the Rosary Society of the Church of the Transfiguration, had lived in Syracuse 17 years."

A native of the Bronx [differs from the the 1940 U.S. Census which states that he was born in Poland], Mr. Lesicki lived in Syracuse 74 years. He retired in 1967 as a sergeant after 42 years in the Syracuse Police Department.
Mr. Lesicki was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Retired Police Benevolent Association and a life member of the Liverpool Rod and Gun Club.
Mr. Lesnicki served in the Marine Corps in World War I and was a member of Gen. Pulaski American Legion Post and Stanley Pennock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Louise Walts; two sisters, Sophie Pdich [last name spellings from this family in Onondaga County vary: Pedzik, Pedzich, Pedzick, Pedzich, and Pendzik] and Lucille Mahunik, both of Syracuse; a brother, Stanley Lesic of Galeville; and several nieces and nephews.
According to the 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Frank Lesicki, 37, was born in Poland. He was employed as a Syracuse Police Officer and resided at 1062 W. Genesee St. with his wife Louise. According to the book Syracuse Police by Daniel F. Walsh, Thomas L. Derby, and Russell W. Gates (2011), Sgt. Frank Lesicki was appointed to the police department in 1927. "As a Marine he served on the President's yacht and as part of the Honor Guards for the Secretary of the Navy."

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald-Journal, March 10, 1944 - Stanley [Stanislaw] Sitnik passed away at his home... . He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Sophia Sitnik, daughter Miss Bertha [Bronislawa] Sitnik of Syracuse, and two sons, Pfc. Thaddeus Sitnik in England, and Pfc. Mack [Mieczislaw, also known as "Matt"] Sitnik of Muroe Calif [assigned to the 14th Armored Division at the time]. He was also survived by two brothers, Anthony and Frank Sitnik of Syracuse, and two sisters, Mrs. Teofila Milewski and Mr. Josephine Luty of Poland. He was a member of Polish Legion American Veterans. His funeral took place from his home at 607 Richmond Avenue and at Sacred Heart Church. Burial took place in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
According to the 1930 U.S. Census, Stanley Sitnik, his wife Sofie and their three children resided at 607 Richmond Avenue, in a home that they owned. He was 37 years old, and born about 1893 in Poland. He was identified in the census as a veteran of the "World War." He arrived in the U.S. from Poland in 1913 and became a naturalized citizen. His occupation was "Coremaker" in an Iron Foundry. His wife, Sophie Sitnik, was 32 years old. Their children were sons Tadeusz, 7 and Mieczislaw, 6 and daughter Bronislawa, 3.
Pennsylvania WWI Veterans Service and Compensation Files, 1917-1919 show that Stanislaw Sitnik, born about 1891 in "Russia-Poland" and residing in Nanticoke, Luzerne, Pennsylvania during the period of 1934-1948 had served in the Army during 1917-1918.
Based on information provided by his son, Matt Sitnik (a member of PLAV, Post 14 and World War II veteran), Stanislaw Sitnik listed Suwalki, Poland as his place of birth. Stanislaw's discharge document lists "Maćkowa Ruda" which is a village about 20 km east of Suwalki and about 25 km west of the border with Lithuania in Podlaskie Voivodeship.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald, Dec. 29, 1931- John Smilgin, 37, of 139 Pulaski Street, disabled World War veteran and Supreme Court attendant, died this morning of illness contracted while overseas with Company C, 61st Infantry, of the Fifth Division.
The veteran was stricken at the Court House Thursday and was taken home by James Putfett, another attendant.
He rallied but suffered a relapse this morning and died shortly after 11 o'clock.
Mr. Smilgin was sent to the U. S. Naval Hospital at Washington last spring by officials of the veterans bureau and on June 16 was operated on. He returned to his home July 11 and since that time has been at the Court House for duty each day.
While serving in the Argonne drive he was gassed. He was given treatment in France and again when he returned to this country. He complained of a stomach disorder a year ago and his case was referred to the veterans bureau.
The Fifth Division with which he served suffered heavy losses in the Argonne drive and Mr. Smilgin was one of the few Onondaga County survivors of that division.
While at the Naval Hospital Mr. Smilgin was visited by President and Mrs. Hoover.
After the operation he was rated as totally disabled and has been receiving full compensation since that time. He was appointed a court attendant and Polish interpreter five years ago.
Mr. Smilgin was born in Poland and brought to this country when he was 11 years of age by his father, Peter Smilgin. He is survived by his father and wife, Mrs. Frances Smilgin and three children, John, Mary Frances and Lorraine Jane Smilgin.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Falcon Club, Polish American Citizens Club and the Sacred Heart Club.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald Journal, May 31, 1985 - Alexander W. (Blaszczak) Blazak, 85, of 209 Paul Ave. died Thursday at Veterans Administration Medical Center.
A native of Poland, Mr. Blazak lived in Syracuse 72 years. He was a self-employed typewriter repairman and had also been employed with L.C. Smith Co.
Mr. Blazak was a veteran of World War I and received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in action in Aisne-Marne, France. In World War II he was a staff sergeant involved with training soldiers in the Army Reserve. Mr. Blazak was one of the organizers and former commanders of Post 14, Polish Legion of American Veterans, and a former national zone commander of the PLAV. He was a life member and a former post commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Chapter 8, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Posts 41 and 1276.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Lukaszewicz of Mattydale and Constance Moore of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Gene of Eastwood; a brother, Walter of Poland; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joseph W. Kaldo was a World War I veteran, enlisted in Michigan and served at the rank of Corporal in the 39th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Division.
The inscription on his stone is difficult to make out, but shows the year of death as 1931.
He was the son of Joseph and Mary Kaldowski, later known as "Kaldo," and his siblings were Marvin, George, and Louise.
According to the 1905 New York State Census, Joseph is shown as residing at 221 Lakeview Avenue in Syracuse. He was 15 years old, born in the U.S. in about 1890, and was working as a "Day Laborer." He resided with his mother Mary, who by this time already appeared to ber a widow, listed as "Mary Kaldowska," who was the head of the household, 39 years of age [born about 1866] and listed "Germany" as her place of birth. Her occupation was "Housework." Also residing there were his two brothers: Norbert [later going by Marvin], 17 years old, born in Germany about 1888, working as a "Moulder," and George, 14 years old, born in the U.S. in about 1891, working as a "Tailor."

Obituary excerpt: "Dr. Stanley Krzywicki Dies: Practiced 51 Years," Syracuse Post Standard, July 4, 1974 - Dr. Stanley T. Krzywicki, 78, of 103 Marian Drive, a longtime Syracuse physician, died yesterday morning at Community-General Hospital after a short illness.
A native of Buffalo, Dr. Krzywicki lived in Syracuse 53 years and had practiced medicine until his retirement two years ago.
Dr, Krzywicki was a member of the American Medical Association, the Academy of Medicine, the New York State Medical Society and the Onondaga County Medical Society.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and was on the courtesy staff of Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital and Community-General Hospital. He served on the advisory board to Dr. Herman Weiskotten when the latter was Commissioner of Health for the county and also on the board of directors of the Onondaga County Health Association.
Dr. Krzywicki was also a member of many Polish American fraternal organizations.
He was an Army veteran of World War I, a member of American Legion Post 41, Polish American Legion Post 14 and was a delegate to the International Falcon Convention in Poland in 1929. The same year he was granted a private audience with Pope Pius XI.
Dr. Krzywicki was a member of the park planning commission.
He was an honorary member of the Orchard Lake Seminary and the Paderewski choir.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Fabisiak; a nephew, Norbert E. Faltyn of Howlett Hill;, three grandnieces and a grandnephew; a sister, Mrs. Melanie Faltyn of Howlett Hill.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bordynski Funeral Home and at 9:15 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. Msgr. Adolph A. Kantor officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home, 1105 W. Genesee St. Contributions may be made to the Heart Association or for cancer research, the Boys Club of Svracuse, or the Polish American Legion.

Born in Plymouth, Pa., he resided in Syracuse since early childhood. He was a former employe of Superior Beverage Co. He was a Veteran of World War I, he served from 1915 to 1926 in the Atlantic Fleet.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Clara Dziekonski; a brother John Jackonski; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Nieto, Mrs. William Chojnwski and Miss Genevieve Jackonski, all of Syracuse; one niece and one nephew.

Bruzdzinski, of Furniture Firm, Hit on Running Board," uncited newspaper clipping (the date of the article is likely Aug. 7, 1933, given that Walter Bruzdzinski's date of death is Aug. 6, 1933) - ... dead ... was Walter J. Bruzdzinski, 37, also known as Walter J. Brisk of 809 Onondaga Avenue.
He was the president and secretary of the Giminski Furniture Company, Inc., 1411 West Genesee Street. Mr. Bruzdzinski was killed instantly at Peterboro Street and Seneca Turnpike, Canastota, when he was struck by an automobile while riding on the running board of another car.
The accident occured at 12 o'clock in the morning, about an hour after Mr. Bruzdzinski, his wife, their two children, and Mrs. Andrew [cannot make out last name] left Syracuse to visit Utica. The car broke down a mile east of Canastota and Mr. Bruzdzinski hailed a west-bound car to go into Canastota for assistance.
He stepped on the left running board of an automobile driven by Gordon H. Kenyon of Boonville. A car driven by Alexander T[cannot make out last name] of 584 Conklin Avenue, Syracuse sideswiped the Kenyon car at the street intersection in Canastota.

Mr. Bruzdzinski was born in Syracuse and attended the public and parochial schools here.
He was for a number of years the head of a textbook company in Syracuse. Ten years ago, he entered business with John Giminski.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Francis Bruzdzinski; two sons, Walter J. Jr. and Richard Bruzdzinski; his father, Frank Bruzdzunski; three brothers, Stanley, Chester and Frank Bruzdzinski, and sister, Mrs. Sophie [last name begins with a Z, but I cannot make it out], all of Syracuse.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald-Journal , Mar. 31,1984 - Frank P. Nowicki, 88, of 1810 W. Genesee St. died Friday at his home.
A native of Poland. Mr. Nowicki lived in Syracuse for 68 years. He was a part-owner of Greenway Brewing Co. and was owner for 30 years of the Spot Grill on Wolf Street.
Mr. Nowicki was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of its Holy Name Society, and president for 43 years of its Fathers Club. He was past commander of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, and a founder of West Side Branch of the Boys' Club and Polish American Citizens Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Antionette Latocha; a son, James P.; three brothers, Joseph, John and Vincent all of Poland; two sisters, Margaret Adasza and Catherine Gromna, both of Poland; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home and 8:45 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

According to the 1920 U.S. Census, Gideon Petruska was 32 years old, born about 1888 in "Russia Poland." He was listed as a "Roomer" residing at Rigel Street in Syracuse, NY. He immigrated to to the U.S. in 1908 and was an alien. His occupation was "Molder [sic]" in an Iron Foundry. A Mar. 22, 1924 article in the Syracuse Herald, "88 Applicants, 12 of Them Veterans Become Citizens," listed Gedeon Petruska, of 1402 Burnet Avenue as one of those becoming a citizen. His nation of origin is shown as Russia.

He was also a member of the St. Louis Society. Polish National Alliance.
Surviving are his wife, Helen [nee Podolak]; a daughter, Dorothy; a son, Theodore A.; a brother in Poland; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A widely known barber, Mr. Renckoski had run a barber shop on Richmond Avenue more than 50 years, retiring in 1970. Mr. Renckoski, a native of Poland, had lived in Syracuse most of his life. He was a World War I Army veteran, serving in France.
He was a member and a past commander of Post 14, Polish Legion of American Veterans; Pulaski Post 1650, American Legion, and chapter 8, Disabled Army Veterans.
Mr. Renckoski was an organizer and member of the Polish Falcons, and a past president of the Free Poland Club. He also was a member of the St. Louis Club and vice president of the Father's Club when he died.
Surviving are his wife, Jean, and a sister, Mrs. Lottie Adamski of Poland. Services will be in ... Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the veterans' plot of Sacred Heart Cemetery, with full military honors by the Pulaski American Legion Post.

Was an inmate at Matteawan State Hospital for the Criminally Insane at Beacon, N.Y. at the time of his death. He had been an inmate there since 1939, after he confessed to Police that he had murdered three members of his family in their Solvay, N.Y. home: his wife Sabina, 42, and sons, Leonard, 9, and Chester, 17. A daughter, Helen, who was 19 at the time, and another son, Henry, then 14, survived (Syracuse Post-Standard, Jan. 23, 1956).

Born in Poland, he was a Syracuse resident about 60 years.
A World War I Army and Navy veteran, he was a member of Tipperary Hill Post, American Legion. Mr. Radziszewski was a retired machinist.
Surviving are a son, John Radziszewski of Arizona; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Zincovitch of Albany, Mrs. Victoria Laskowski and Mrs. Virginia Reiss; five brothers, Stanley Reed of Herkimer, Edward Reed and Philip Radziseski, both of Hamilton, Edwin Radziseski of East Syracuse and Joseph Radzieseski of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald, Apr. 26, 1939 - John Lesniak, 44, of Lakeland, retired bus driver, died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday at his home. He had been in poor health for five years. Mr. Lesniak was stricken at about 8:30 A. M. while sitting alone in the kitchen of his home. He was found shortly afterward by John Krupa, a boarder, who called the sheriff's office. Coroner H. Ernest Gak said that death apparently was due to heart attack. Mr. Lesniak was formerly a bus driver for the New York State Railways. He at one time served an enlistment in the Navy, being stationed at Lock Island, R. I. He was a member of Jablonowski Post, Polish American Legion. Surviving are his, wife, Mrs. Catherine Lesniak; a daughter, Miss Virginia Lesniak; four sisters, Mrs. John Marlona of Syracuse, Mrs. Raymond Gadry of East Taunton, Mass, and Mrs. Treffley Moquin and Miss Rose Lesniak of Taunton, Mass.
Article excerpt: Syracuse Herald, Saturday, Apr. 29, 1939 - Military rites were conducted Saturday morning for John Lesniak of Lakeland, retired bus driver, who died suddenly Wednesday at his home. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 8:30 A.M. and in Sacred Heart Church at 9 o'clock, when a requiem mass celebrated by the Rev. Francis Cyman.
Active bearers, all members of St. Stephen's Society were William Kozci, Stanley Pendzich, John Galuska, Anthony Nowis, Frank Nowicki and Michael Usiatynski.
Commander John M. Dobby of Jablonowski Post 14, Polish- American Legion, was in charge of the military services. Paul Mahunik was chaplain.
The firing squad included Alexander W. Blazak, Walter Piela, Adam Renckowski, Joseph Sobolewski, Joseph Kurzawinski and Anthony Zaskewicz.
Edward Glaczuk, Marion and Cazmir Paulicki, Michael Ronacki, John Piotrowski, Jr., and Edward Sobolewski formed the color guard. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Post 14, Polish Legion of American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katherine Ulatowski; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Post-Standard, Mar. 3, 1968 - Alexander P. Wirwas of 218 Arch St., a native of Poland,
died Tuesday in Veterans Administration Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Wirwas was a retired employe of the U.S. Hoffman Machinery Corp. He was a disabled World War I veteran, having served with Company F, Ninth Infantry. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was an organizer of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 14, and the Polish-American Citizens Club. He was former president of the board of directors of the PLAV.
He was a member of General Pulaski Post 1650, American Legion, and the Polish National Alliance of the U.S.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Wysocki Wirwas; two daughters, Mrs. Matthew Pietroski and Mrs. John Zych; a son, Alexander Wirwas Jr. of Inglewood, Calif. ; a sister, Mrs Alexandra Barzydlo of Poland; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in Poland.
Services will be... in Transfiguration Church where a solemn high requiem Mass will be celebrated. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

According to his military service record, John E. Dolinski, Army Serial No. 1,927,484, residing at 310 First St, Solvay, NY, was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sep. 27, 1917 at Syracuse, NY. He was born in Camillus, NY and was 22- 8/12 years of age at the time of induction. He served in Company G, 310th Infantry Regiment to Nov. 16, 1917; 157th Depot Brigade to Sep. 26, 1918; Provisional & Replacement Regiment at Camp Gordon, GA to Oct. 15, 1918; "Oct Aut Repl Draft" to Nov. 14, 1918; Company I, 161st Infantry Regiment to Nov. 28, 1918; Depot Service Company 40, Camp Merritt NJ to discharge. He served at the rank of Sergeant on Jan. 1, 1918; was reduced to the rank of Private on Feb. 17, 1918; promoted to Private First Class on June 11, 1918; reduced again to Private on January 10, 1919. Dolinski served overseas from Oct. 27, 1918 to July 19, 1919 and was discharged on July 26, 1919.

Article "Solvay Soldier Fails to Come Up After Dive: John E. Dolinski Drowns at Bathing Beach Near Maryland Army Post," published in the Syracuse Herald, Aug. 6, 1926 -
The body of Private John E. Dolinski, 31, of Camp Holabird, a native of Solvay, who drowned Tuesday at Riverview Park, a bathing resort near the army post will arrive here and be taken to the Solvay home today. First news of the tragedy reached here late yesterday in a brief dispatch to Miss Agnes Weselle, an employe of E. W. Edwards & Son store and a niece of Private Dolinski.
"Regret to inform you," the message read, "that Private John Edward Dolinski drowned about 4:30, August 3."
A more complete dispatch received last night related that Private Dolinski drowned while swimming at Shore 18, near Riverview Park, Sergt. Dewey W. Smith, also of Camp Holabird, who had accompanied Dolinski on the bathing trip, told authorities the victim dove from a spring board and failed to come to the surface.
Recover Body
Smith, after waiting a few moments thinking Dolinskl might, have been swimming under water, went in after Dolinski and after several attempts finally grabbed the body and brought it to shore.
Police were summoned and a patrol ambulance rushed Dolinski to Baltimore City Hospital where physicians pronounced him dead. A verdict of accidental drowning was given and arrangement made to ship the body to Syracuse. The body arrived here at 11:40 o'clock this morning.
A veteran in the World War, Private Dolinski returned to Solvay after service Overseas and later obtained employment With a firm in Cleveland. He re-enlisted in that city several months ago and was sent to Camp Holabird.
Funeral Rites Tomorrow
Funeral services, in charge of John Giminski, undertaker, will take place at 8:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at the home of Dolinski's sister, Mrs. Florence Wesolowski, 215 Alice Avenue. Solvay, and at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart (Polish) Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery.
Surviving besides Mrs. Wesolowski are another sister. Mrs. Anna Nieznalski: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Dolinski; and two brothers, Walter and Felix Dolinski, all of Solvay.

Obituary excerpt: Syracuse Herald, Dec. 7, 1932 - Stephen Wieklinski, 38, of 448 Wilkinson Street, veteran of the Battle of the Meuse-Argonne in the World War, and an employe of Swift & Company, packers, for several years, died yesterday morning in Onondaga County Sanatorium.
Mr. Wieklinski, who was gassed and wounded in the Meuse-Argonne, collapsed while at work three weeks ago. He was taken to Onondaga General Hospital in an ambulance from that institution, was removed to the sanatorium.
During the World War, Mr. Wieklinski was a member of the Seventh Regiment, Company C, Third Division. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Felicia Wieklinski; two sons, John and Chester Wieklinski, and a daughter Miss Blanche Wieklinski.
The funeral will take place Friday morning at a time to be set later.
